What Happens If Your Gums Recede Too Far?

Our gums begin to move away from their normal position when irritated – either because of the toxins released by harmful bacteria in dental plaque or tartar or because of excessive force used while brushing. Either way, the recession of the gums can lead to various complications. For example, when the gums move away from the roots, they become more prone to developing tooth cavities and making the teeth sensitive. Furthermore, gum recession also increases the risk of developing gum disease.

Will My Teeth Fall Out From Receding Gums?

Gum recession is a sign of underlying periodontal disease. In the initial stages of gum disease, the gums appear swollen and red and tend to bleed while eating or brushing. This is because of the destruction of the fibres that attach our teeth to gums due to the release of toxins from bacteria in plaque and tartar deposits. If this problem is not treated timely, there is extensive gum recession along with widespread destruction of the gum fibres, leading to the formation of pockets between the gums and tooth roots. At the same time, the destruction of the fibres holding our teeth in their sockets causes the teeth to become mobile. In advanced stages, the teeth become so loose that they begin to fall off. So yes, gum recession can ultimately cause the teeth to fall out.

Why Are Some People More Prone To Having Receding Gums?

Gum recession, an early sign of gum disease, is more prevalent in certain people. This is because some people are genetically more predisposed to gum disease than others. Furthermore, some people who use excessive force while brushing their teeth also have a higher risk of gum recession and disease.

How Many Teeth Do I Have To Lose Before I Should Get Dentures?

The best thing about removable dentures is that they can be used to replace any number of teeth. So, for example, whether you have lost a single tooth or all teeth in a jaw, you can get a denture for tooth replacement. So, there is no specific restriction on the number of missing teeth for getting removable dentures.

Can Some Dentures Be Semi-Permanently Bonded To Your Gums?

Dentures are removable appliances that rest on our teeth, gums, and underlying jawbone for their retention and support. So no, dentures cannot be semi-permanently bonded to the gums for replacing missing teeth.

What Causes Gums To Shrink When Dentures Are Worn?

Removable dentures rely on oral soft tissues, adjacent teeth, and underlying jawbone for retention. Therefore, when the dentures are worn, they exert constant pressure on the underlying tissues, resulting in the accelerated resorption of the jawbone and time-dependent thinning of the oral soft tissues/gums. So, prolonged denture use can result in the shrinking of gums or oral soft tissues.

Why Are My Gums Sore From Using Dentures?

As mentioned earlier, removable dentures exert pressure on the oral soft tissues when worn. As a result, when someone wears their dentures for the first time, they may experience some discomfort leading to soreness. However, there is no need to worry; soon, your oral cavity will adapt to the dentures, and the soreness should go away in a matter of days.

Can Cosmetic Dentistry Fix Receding Gums?

Gum recession not only indicates an underlying periodontal issue, but it can also cause an aesthetic problem. But, the good news is that the cosmetic flaw created by gum recession can be fixed with cosmetic dental treatment. For example, gum recontouring is a cosmetic dental procedure that is routinely used to cosmetically treat gum recession. In this procedure, your dentist will take a soft tissue graft from the roof of your mouth and use it to fill the gap created by receding gums.

What’s The Best Solution For Teeth Gap And Receding Gums?

There are several options for teeth gaps – diastema with both cosmetic and orthodontic treatments:

  • Braces
  • Removable aligners
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Crowns

Regarding gum recession, the best treatment option is to restore the gap created by gum recession with a gum graft procedure.

Removable dentures are a reliable and cost-effective option for tooth replacement. However, for dentures to work well and last long, they must be designed by an experienced dentist. If you are looking for dentures in the Deptford or New Cross area, Waldron Dental Clinic is an excellent choice. After having some hiccups in my treatment which were quite anxiety inducing and annoying. I've been treated by April and Shankar for the past few months. They set things right and restored my faith in the clinic. The 5 stars are for them.

This is my second review in addition to my original review I left below earlier. Today 08/08/2023 remarks the end of my braces journey with Waldron Dental clinic. I cannot recommend this place any more! I had big gaps between my tooth with weird structured front tooth. Waldron Dental Clinic team was able to close all gaps and give me the natural Hollywood smile. It is money that is well spent and if time goes back I will still chose Waldron Dental Clinic over any other clinic. The team there is very skilled, patient and you feel directly that they know what they are doing. They are always willing to answer all questions and explain what they are doing and why! Also, a point that is very worth mentioning, for the retainers, they have an advanced technological equipment that takes a 3D copy of your tooth when you take your braces off. It is 10x more accurate than the traditional moulding technique that all Dental Clinics use! The retainers I received were fitting is perfectly from the first time!! Well done Waldron Clinic Team! All the Best ———————————————————————— Mr. Grant from Waldron Dental Clinic has just served me via a phone call - 13.08.2022. I don’t really usually leave reviews but he absolutely deserves. I need to say that I absolutely had one of the best customer experiences in terms of help for personal reasons. Mr. Grant did not even hesitate to help and he just straightaway understood that we all as human beings we face sudden personal issues that wouldn’t help us to attend an appointment Speaking about him, his voice was very clear and the phone quality was superb. I did not fail to miss a single word, not as what we experience nowadays on customer service phone calls from other companies. His voice tune was very calming as well and he tried to make the phone call cheerful and he didn’t fail to put a smile on my face this morning! Thank you Mr. Grant, I hope Waldron Dental Clinic relevant people will view this review Many Thanks, Faris ElBalawi
