Root Canal Treatment in London

Root Canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infection at the root of the tooth and is often the last resort instead of an extraction.

When treated under the best isolation techniques (isolating just that tooth from the rest of the mouth), infection inside the tooth is removed and cleaned and replaced with a root filling and completed with a crown to prevent fracture of a weakened tooth. The procedure is usually undertaken over 1-2 visits and relieves the pain of infection instantly. The cost of root canal treatment varies depending on complexity and saves a tooth for between 10-12 years on average with our expert team.

Frequently asked questions

We understand you may naturally have questions about this dental treatment. We have compiled a few of the most asked questions about this treatment, but should you have more please don’t hesitate to get in touch to ask.

Root canal treatment is highly successful; the procedure has more than a 95% success rate. Many teeth fixed with a root canal can last a lifetime. Root treated teeth are weaker and more prone to fracture than normal. In order to prevent this, a crown is often advised, especially on back teeth.

The treatment is usually split into 2 visits to ensure the root canal is clean and disinfected before filling and sealing the root. Each appointment is usually 1 hour long.

Re-root treatment or extraction. Sometimes the tooth can become reinfected around the previous root filling. Placing crowns on the teeth can sometimes help this. Depending on the quality of the previous root filling, the previous root filling can be removed, disinfected again and re sealed. This is called a re-root canal treatment and costs £150-250 additional to the root canal treatment. This often requires a skilled dentist to perform well. If the infection is too large, the only option may to remove the tooth.

When you need a root canal treatment it is often because there is an infection through the root of the tooth and affected the surrounding bone. The symptoms are usually a continuous dull ache specifically around that tooth, but can spread depending on the size of the infection. It is possible with our team to re treat teeth that have previously had a root canal treatment.
